For too long, our continent’s educational potential has been held back by a fragmented digital landscape. Isolated projects with unsustainable commercial models mean a unified, scalable solution has remained out of reach. The AUDA-NEPAD Vision 2030 charts a different path—and together we can make it real.
The African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) has outlined an ambitious Vision for African EdTech 2030.
By 2030, every African learner will have equitable access to world-class, localised digital learning content on affordable, reliable devices, supported by an interoperable pan-African EdTech ecosystem.
This Manifesto establishes a mechanism by which Africa will organise collective action to deliver its EdTech Vision by 2030. Together, a coalition of committed African policymakers, teachers, developers, investors, advocates and learners can break through the barriers that have held us back.
The opportunity is clear. The human cost of inaction would be catastrophic. The time is now.
Mwanga wa Elimu is a continent-wide movement building a unified African EdTech ecosystem to reach 200 million learners by 2030. This ecosystem is founded on shared Digital Public Infrastructure, enabling interoperable, scalable EdTech applications built in Africa, for Africa.
The movement is driven by The Luminaries™, committed leaders who pledge concrete actions aligned with their roles. Policymakers, investors, developers, researchers, teachers, and learners each contribute their expertise and resources to make this vision real.
Together, The Luminaries are ensuring every African child has access to world-class, localised digital learning content by 2030.
We collectively commit to advance the digital transformation of African education in accordance with the Vision. We will build, champion, and operate within a single, unified ecosystem guided by this Manifesto and aligned with the guiding principles of the Vision.
We are calling on policymakers to adopt Africa's EdTech Vision to champion the EdTech Vision, enable the ecosystem through aligned regulatory frameworks, and guarantee openness by serving as custodians of Africa's DPI-Ed.
We are calling on investors and funders to align investments with DPI-Ed-Compatible and Vision-aligned EdTech, support the infrastructure through catalytic funding and technical expertise, and foster sustainable models benefiting learners and developers alike.
We are calling on developers to build DPI-Ed-Compatible apps, collaborate with teachers and learning experts using DPI-Ed-sourced data to accelerate improvements, and leverage sustainable models to grow impact within Africa's vibrant EdTech Ecosystem.
We are calling on researchers to generate rigorous evidence, share knowledge through accessible open-access formats, collaborate across disciplines to address real-world challenges, and uphold ethical standards protecting learners' privacy and African communities' interests.
We are calling on teachers and learners to champion adoption of DPI-Ed-Compatible apps, provide constructive feedback to developers and policymakers for continuous improvement, and embrace lifelong learning through professional development and digital skills building.
